What is web hosting?
A web host provides the technologies needed for the website to be viewed online, and stores your web files on computers called servers. Examples of well known web hosting companies are BlueHost, GoDaddy and Siteground. I’ve used them all and my experience has been that Siteground is the best.
What is a ‘Self-Hosted’ Website?
Self-hosting is when you pay a web host company such as Siteground, or others to host your WordPress.org website so it can be viewed online at a domain such as mydomain.com.
What is a ‘non Self-Hosted’ Website?
A non self-hosted website is one that you have not paid for, one that you host on a ‘free’ website platform such as Tumblr, Blogger or Wix. Your url might be something like mydomain.wix.com.
Hosted vs Self-Hosted Websites
If you use a ‘free’ non-self-hosted site than you are limited in what you can do, and you can’t monetize it. It is not recommended to use a ‘free’ website platform.
Self-hosting means that you own your website, and allows you unlimited capabilities as to what you want to do with it. Self-hosting your website is always recommended – especially if you intend to earn money from your blog. You can’t monetize your site unless it’s self-hosted. I only work with self-hosted websites.
Web Hosting Recommendations
1) I most often host your site on my siteground account. That way it get’s set up right, and makes it easier for me to work on it and maintain which saves you money.
2) You can set up your own siteground account if you know what you’re doing and prefer to set it up and maintain it yourself.
Allow me to set up your site on my siteground web hosting account
It often saves time. Your site will run much faster on my siteground account because I purchase an expensive, fast hosting package. No I won’t hold your site hostage. Im happy to provide you a download of your site files and database if you ever want to move the site.
What if your site is hosted by Godaddy, Bluehost or one of the other hosting companies?
We can point the name servers to siteground. I dont recommend building your site on the other hosts because your site will likely run slower, there will likely be more issues, it will take longer to build, and tech support is not as good. It will make my job more difficult which costs you more money
